Maine Medical Center is seeking an Elder Life Specialist to join our passionate and dedicated team at the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP). As an integral member of the team, the ELS will assist in evaluation and enrollment for elderly inpatients at high risk of developing complications in the hospital.

Position Summary:
- Travel throughout the hospital to conduct evaluations on patients
- Perform daily thorough geriatric intake assessment and enrollment of new patients into the program. Screening procedure includes medical review, patient/family interview and nurse interview. Orients patient and families to HELP and specific plan for the patient.
- Assist in training and assigning volunteers to deliver patient interventions. Acts as role model and point person for volunteers
- Update treatment plans daily and assigns volunteers to work with particular patients and define for them appropriate interventions.
- Per Diem position, shifts are 7am to 3:30pm
What we are looking for:
- A caring, reliable and empathetic member of our team, able to provide services and communicate in a manner and language appropriate to the age and comprehension level of the diverse clients and their families.
- A willingness to learn about different interventions and the different diagnoses affecting this population.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Social Work or related field.
- Eligible for Certification as a Therapeutic Recreational Specialist (CTRS) as administered by NCTRC or eligible for LSW with focus on elder care is preferred.
- Ability to manage time efficiently, including flexibility and prioritization of work tasks in a fast paced setting.
- Superior communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of professional disciplines. Ability to conduct needs assessment on different units/services.
- Ability to sensitively assess patients for participation in program and communicate initial plan of care to staff, volunteers and patients.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
