Metric Engineering, Inc. is seeking candidates with 3-6 years of professional experience for a full-time mid-level Environmental Specialist/Scientist II position for our South Florida (Fort Lauderdale and Miami) offices. The position entails providing statewide support across a wide variety of Metric projects involving wetlands, tree resources, mangroves, seagrasses, environmental permitting, contamination reviews, threatened/endangered species, construction compliance monitoring, and NEPA documentation.

Day-to-Day:

  • Field surveys and site inspections
  • GIS analysis
  • Regulatory code interpretation/application
  • Environmental documentation and background research
  • Technical report writing/editing;
  • Data collection, processing, filing, and analysis; and
  • Coordination with regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. or B.A. degree in natural or environmental sciences or planning (or similar field);
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Florida driver’s license

Preferred Capabilities:

  • MS Office software proficiency
  • Arborist certification or forestry/dendrology/botany background
  • Ability to identify Florida’s native and exotic flora/fauna
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS.

Other Helpful Skills/Education:

  • SCUBA certification
  • Rescue/First Aid training
  • Florida Master Naturalist training
  • Wetland delineation training
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Strong chemistry/geology/hydrology/sustainability background
  • Familiarity with South Florida geography/roadways
  • CADD or MicroStation familiarity
