Hourly rate: $17.00 hour

Position Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Facilities & Maintenance Technician 2 assists the Facilities & Maintenance Manager with general repair and maintenance of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House buildings, facilities, and equipment, including maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, boilers, HVAC and other equipment as necessary to ensure proper functioning of systems.

SKILLS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Electrical: Performs basic electrical repair work for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, appliances, and lighting systems; reports unsafe electrical conditions.
  • Plumbing: Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; opens clogged lines and drains; replaces seals and other minor parts; repairs and maintains hot water heaters and other appliances.
  • Boilers and HVAC: Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on building mechanical equipment and systems; inspect belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, etc.
  • Carpentry: Performs basic rough and finished carpentry repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences and shelves.
  • Plaster/Painting: Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain.
  • Operates power equipment including power washer, buffing machine, carpet cleaning machine, drills, saber saws, circular saws, generators, small sump pumps, stake driver, etc. according to established procedures and in a manner that ensures the safety of persons and objects.
  • Performs minor troubleshooting and recommends course of action.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Assists in obtaining quotes and arranging for services of outside vendors as directed.
  • Works with outside vendors to complete maintenance and repairs as necessary.
  • Assist with general Facilities & Maintenance Department responsibilities including, but not limited to: office and storage relocation; exhibition fabrication and dismantling; garbage removal; restroom maintenance, and event setup and breakdown.
  • Maintains assigned vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean & orderly condition.

TRAINING, EDUCATION, and ABILITIES

  • 5 years or more of any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described, including related work experience in one or more of the building trades.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, trade school preferred.
  • Ability to climb ladders; lift and move 25-50 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and use good judgment.
  • Ability to read, understand and implement instruction manuals for tools and equipment.
  • Willing to work outdoors, including in inclement weather, when necessary.

  • Successful completion of criminal background and credit check.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime as required by business needs.
