The Superintendent of Schools announces the following position within the Fall River Public School System:

Position: Family and Community Engagement Specialist

Job Description: The Family Engagement Specialist encourages family/parental involvement in the school and provides ongoing, educational programs to immediate family members, parents/legal guardians of students enrolled in the district. This position will also lead the school-based Community Facilitators in their efforts at community engagement.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Plans, coordinates, and implements a Family Engagement Program at PACE.
• Plans and organizes district wide workshops for families on a range of topics (i.e. supporting academic achievement at home, healthy, eating, managing transitions, etc.)
• Promotes parent and community volunteers across the district
• Informs school-based Community Facilitators of resources that could provide needed assistance.
• Train and provide guidance and support to Community Facilitators.
• Become familiar with and utilize school, district, and community intervention programs designed to address the academic, social, and emotional needs of at-risk students.
• Build one-on-one relationships with students, families, staff, and appropriate community partners as necessary to establish collaborative partnerships designed to meet individual student needs.
• Performs any and all duties as assigned.
• Successfully advances district initiatives.
• Flexible with hours, may be required to facilitate events nights and weekends.

Required Qualifications:

• 1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; coursework in education/ youth issues, preferred
• Experience working in an educational, social service, or family support service setting.
• Experience with child development and effective parenting techniques.
• Experience working with families that have diverse cultures and economic backgrounds.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification, such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.

Reports To: Director of the Parent and Community Engagement Center (PACE)

Terms of Employment: 195 Day work year, Salary and benefits established in an individual contract.

Salary Range: $40,000-$50,000
