Job description
The Controller provides oversight to all accounting/finance related activities for the company. Directs all analysis and reporting of financial information including budgets, planning, and required filings and reports. The Controller will optimize financial performance by ensuring financial policies, procedures and controls are in place and follow corporate guidelines. Additionally, this position will be a strategic business partner to management and will be involved in all financial business decisions within the division.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day accounting function and team while driving process improvements
- Lead and direct all financial operations of the division, including the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, understanding financial performance, cost drivers, variances and anything that impacts the financial results of the division’s operations
- Responsible for the quality of the financial data, processes and dead lines
- Establish inventory standard costs methodology and implementation
- Responsible for ensuring financial controls are strong and scalable to support business growth
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards relevant to the business
- Support for tax compliance and filings
- Lead all forecasting and budgeting processes, including variance analysis and deep dives into operational and financial issues as needed
- Work closely with Purchasing and Inventory Control staff to ensure accuracy of perpetual inventory, both units and costs.
- Monitor KPIs
- Streamline and improve financial processes and reporting
- Communicate results to corporate, executive, and operational leadership to promote efficiency and process improvements
- Manage all capital expenditure approvals
- Lead financial audits
- Review and approve Account reconciliations and analysis
- Work with internal and external customers (including auditors) to support and provide reporting and analysis as needed
- Key player for the management team; bringing critical financial elements to support business decisions
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in accounting principles, understand finance concepts and cash management
- Proficiency with ERPs, Excel or any Data reporting solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a track record of process improvement
- Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize workload to adhere to deadlines and cross-functional dependencies
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), the ability to interact with all levels through the organization and be able to exchange information efficiently and accurately.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and prior accounting in a manufacturing environment with POC Revenue Recognition.
- Prior experience as a Controller or Asst. Controller within a manufacturing facility
- Hands on, able to roll up sleeves and perform day to day accounting activities as well as managerial role
- Strong Excel and MS Office skills
- Experience leading and developing a team
- Must comply and satisfactorily pass pre-employment background and drug screening.
- Ability to complete and be granted/maintain a US Department of State MRPT clearance as a condition of employment as described in our employee handbook
- A preliminary and interim security background check must be passed before employment begins and the full MRPT application completed up on starting employment. All offers of employment are conditional based upon successful completion, approval and maintenance of this clearance.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 5+ years of experience in a Controller or Asst. Controller role required OR a combination of education and related working experience from with comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Advanced degree or CPA certification
- Experience with SAGE accounting software
- Prior experience managing others
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is predominately functioning in a sedentary light office position with high frequency of keyboarding, and computer use.
