GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Fire protection and the protection of Museum visitors, personnel, and art collections from the hazards of fire. Make inspections of auxilary protection equipment to insure proper maintenance. Make daily systematic fire safety inspections of building. Instructs Museum personnel in operation of fire extinguishers and methods of transmitting alarms. Supervises all welding and burning operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Conducts fire drills and fire instruction as directed by Security Management.
- Secures compliance with the NYC fire codes, procedures and regulations pertaining to the storage and use of flammable or hazardous materials.
- Acts as fire guard during welding and cutting operations and checks for hidden sparks after operations are finished.
- Responds to all emergency calls in the Museum.
- Advises Security Management on all matters related to fire safety.
- Liaison with NYC Fire Department and escort NYC Fire Inspectors Update the Uris Center section of the Education Department’s Share Point intranet page.
- Monitor and respond to general correspondence in the Education Department e-mail box
- Serve as a Fire/Emergency Safety Monitor for Education offices.
- Manage and coordinate Uris Exhibition logistics and Uris Center external rentals, as needed.
- Maintain Uris Center promotional databases & coordinate mailings.
- Assist with the physical set-up of educational facilities, when needed (lifting, moving, and arranging of tables, chairs, whiteboards, furniture etc.).
- Other related duties
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine (or approved for an exemption as a reasonable accommodation due to a disability, sincerely held religious belief, or pregnancy, or because you are a victim of domestic violence, stalking, or sex offenses).
Experience and Skills:
- Must have full time fire fighting experience in a major municipal fire department
- EMT-b or Paramedic experience preferred
Knowledge and Education
- College degree preferred.
- Possess knowledge of the chemistry of fire and knowledge of the NYC fire codes, rules and regulations pertaining to combustibles and flammables.
- Have experience in fire extinguishment.
- Individual must qualify for Certificate of Fitness as a fire guard for public assembly and torch operations from the NYC Fire Department.
