Job description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Fitness Director is responsible for the planning, development, supervision and administration of all fitness and wellness programming at the branch, as well as, staffing and quality of corporate wellness fitness classes. The Fitness Director will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, develop, coach and train staff to ensure that participants development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Administer all aspects of youth, adult, corporate and senior fitness & wellness programs, including but not limited to personal training, group exercise classes, and fitness center programming.
2. Responsible for recruitment and training of fitness & wellness staff, as well as planning continuous training programs for staff to ensure high quality job performance.
3. In collaboration with the Association Healthy Living Director, ensure that offsite fitness classes are adequately staffed and of high quality.
4. As needed, demonstrate and lead exercise, coach and assist with exercise activities/classes, conduct wellness orientations.
5. Keep accurate records of all fitness staff certifications.
6. Responsible for strict adherence to all YMCA of Greater Waukesha County department policies and procedures related to safety, rules and other regulations.
7. Be a champion for overall membership goals, retention and satisfaction.
8. Role model strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of the approved annual budget with recommended adjustments.
9. Participate and recruit staff, members, vendors and program participants in financial development efforts such as the Annual Community Support Campaign.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Bachelors degree with a minimum of 3-5 years of successful program development and fitness center experience that includes staff management, or, equivalent education and experience. Candidate should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, volunteer and program development, fiscal budgeting and management and operational procedures as well as good written and verbal communication skills. Additional skills include the ability to motivate a diverse population that includes all fitness levels.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees in accordance with the organizations policies, mission and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; and addressing and resolving issues.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to demonstrate and lead a wide variety of exercise classes and moves, coach and assist members on equipment, conduct wellness orientations, stand, walk bend and reach and lift for extended periods of time.
