The Upper Arlington Senior Center is looking for Fitness Room Attendants to assist in daily operations and supervision of the Center’s fitness studio, “Studio 55”. The Senior Center is part of the Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation Department. The Senior Center will eventually be merging into the new Upper Arlington Community Center projected to open 2024.
The Fitness Studio primarily accommodates senior center members age 50+ during the hours of 8am to 7pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays 8am to noon. This position monitors the proper use of all facilities and equipment within the fitness studio, and ensures the safety of all participants.

Examples of Duties

  • Fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all attendees. Personable and effective in meeting the needs of our Senior community.
  • Keep all facilities and equipment clean and ready for use by participants.
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitizing of assigned areas as needed.
  • Keep accurate attendance of all participants upon entry to the facility.
  • Ensure SilverSneakers ® participants scan their SilverSneakers® card upon arrival, as well as monitor and record visits for those enrolled in other programs such as Renew Active.
  • Assist participants with set up and proper use of equipment, while reinforcing safety at all times.
  • Provide orientation of the Fitness Center to all new attendees.
  • Encourage sanitizing of equipment before and after use by participants.
  • Respond to emergencies in cases of participant injury or illness, while also notifying appropriate supervisory staff and responders when needed.
  • Understand and work within the parameters of the attendant position. Avoid prescribing or advising health activities to participants where it is most appropriate for that participant’s health professional(s) to recommend and prescribe.
  • Encourage general safe use of equipment, and should have a working knowledge of the overall function and physical fitness benefits of each.
  • Ensure the Studio is opened (or closed) at scheduled times. Maintains security of the building.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Education/Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Previous experience in a health and wellness/fitness setting is preferred, but not required.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification. If candidate has not yet obtained these certifications, candidate will obtain and provide proof of certifications prior to start date.
