POSITION DESCRIPTION

General Manager If you’re a hands-on person with leadership experience who loves to be around boats and people, here’s an opportunity to take your experience to the next level. If you’re the kind of person who thrives in a fast paced environment and brings a positive attitude with you every day, you need to talk to us. From mid-March to mid-November, you’ll skipper our large boats on Lake Mendota showing our guests the best views of Madison. In addition, as General Manager, you’re in charge of the day-to-day operations of Betty Lou Cruises. You’ll manage maintenance; hire and train captains and order supplies, services and equipment. You’ll need to be available, usually by phone, whenever our boats are running to help solve operational issues. You’ll also be a member of our management team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. Operate twin-engine boats in our fleet.

2. Boat Maintenance: Work closely with mechanics, captains, outside contractors and others to plan and organize maintenance work on our boats including work done before, during and after the season.

3. Work closely with our booking staff.

4. Review boat logbooks on a regular basis and solicit maintenance reports from captains.

5. Communicate repair and maintenance issues and status to captains, mechanics, office and our management team.

6. Training: Plan, organize and deliver training for captains and other staff in boat operation, safety, customer relations and cruise narration.

7. Hiring: Recruit, interview and hire captains.

8. Order supplies and outside services.

9. Organizational Improvement: Help develop and improve operational policies.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Skilled powerboat operator. Experience with twin engine boats is a plus.

2. Valid driver’s license.

3. Management and supervisory experience.

4. General knowledge of marine engines, electrical systems and boat repair.

5. Verbal and written communication skills.

6. Background in operations management.

7. Experience planning and organizing complex processes and events.

8. Flexibility and a solution-based mindset.

9. Experience training and leading staff.

10. Skilled in common computer software such as MS Word, MS Excel and email.
