Job Description:
The GIS Technician will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of GIS data and maps for the water/ waste water infrastructure, as well as respond to requests for custom maps and/or reports. This position may be located in San Jose, Torrance, or Bakersfield, CA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reviews and interprets data sources and uses standard ESRI ArcGIS software functions to enter, edit and update GIS spatial data, including points, lines, and polygons, and attribute data into databases or layers, following standard procedures

Researches source documents such as as-built drawings, legal descriptions, and other records to verify the accuracy and completeness of data prior to input; uses or develops scripts and queries to search for and correct missing, incomplete, or inaccurate spatial and attribute data

Follows established standards and procedures, enters parameters and generates standard GIS products including maps, graphics, tables, and reports

Performs quality-control checks to ensure the accuracy and completeness of spatial data

Operates GIS-specific hardware including large format plotters and scanners

Collects field data using a GPS or other equipment as needed

Provides technical assistance and training support to customers using GIS software and products

Serves as a technical resource to other staff and may provide lead work direction, guidance, and training

Develops and applies GIS analytical methodologies and assess the appropriateness of GIS applications for specific projects

Manages tasks with competing deadlines

Participates in the Company’s Continuous Improvement process and projects

Performs other similar duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in geographic information systems, GIS Science, or geography
-
One (1) year of full-time experience in the use and operations of geographic information systems, including the entry, editing, and retrieval of geospatial data in GIS databases

Experience using ESRI platform is preferred

Geographic Information Systems Certificate is preferred

Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) Certification
-
ESRI Technical Certifications
-
Valid California Driver License
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficient in the use of the following software programs:

ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop with extensions
-
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)

Experience working with ArcGIS linear networks, versioning, and replication

Knowledge of cartographic principles

Work effectively with all levels of employees and management

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Maintain effective working relationships with other departments, supervisor, and employees

Commitment to excellent customer service

Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Salary Range: $39.38 - $54.26
