Responsibilities:
This is responsible technical work preparing surgical pathology and autopsy specimens and other tissue samples for microscopic examination. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for processing and embedding tissue samples in paraffin wax; performing histological and cytochemical stains; preparing frozen sections; processing small biopsies for sectioning; preparing microscopes for use; performing photographic work related to the microscopes; work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level professional position and is reviewed for results obtained; processes and embeds tissue samples in paraffin wax; sections paraffin blocks; performs routine histologic and cytochemical stains; prepares frozen sections; processes small biopsies for sectioning and examination; prepares electron microscopes and other microscopes for use; loads, unloads, and develops film used with the microscopes; develops photographs from negatives; photographs fluorescent slides and identities suspect areas on fluorescent and plastic sectioned slides; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama. Registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Histologic Technologist.
