POSITION TITLE: Housekeeper DEPARTMENT: Administration
REPORTS TO: Housekeeping Supervisor EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 2021
FLSA: Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY
The primary role of the Housekeeper position is to perform the day-to-day activities in accordance with guidelines and regulations governing Carondelet Center, and as may be directed by the Facilities Manager, and/or the Supervisor of Housekeeping, to assure Carondelet Center is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED.
- No experience required. On-the-job training provided.
- Housekeeping experience in a healthcare facility preferred
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- A self-starter with the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
- Able to deal tactfully with Sisters, family members, personnel, and visitors.
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas, must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
- Must be willing to work irregular hours as needed, including weekends and holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
- Sweeps, scrubs, and mops floors; vacuums; dusts and polishes furniture and fittings; disposes of trash in a sanitary manner; cleans wash basins, mirrors, toilets, tubs, and showers; wipes down glass surfaces; makes beds and changes linens as required; performs other duties as assigned.
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor
- Coordinate daily housekeeping services with homecare services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or common areas.
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
- Ensure assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
- Keep work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
- Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning, refer to manufacturer’s instructions when necessary

This job operates in a religious residential assisted living setting that is community-focused and empowering for the residents who have a strong sense of agency in their day to day lives.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is required to frequently stand; walk; use hands or fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 60 pounds, including pushing and pulling. The employee must be able to self-transfer and move throughout the facility. The employee must be able to perform effectively with frequent interruptions and the mental and emotional stress of the position. Flexibility with schedule worked may be necessary. The position includes possible exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens.
