Position: Housing Navigator
Position Information: Full-Time Salary
Organizational Summary: Soldier On is a private non-profit organization providing services for veterans that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Soldier On operates multiple transitional and permanent housing residencies in Western Massachusetts, providing housing for nearly 300 veterans per night. Soldier On also operates 70 units of permanent housing in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. In addition, Soldier On has been the recipient of three SSVF grants since September 2011.The SSVF program is a grant funded by the VA awarded to private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives. These grants provide case management services, outreach services, and temporary financial assistance for veterans that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Position Summary: The position provides housing navigation, tenancy education, interdisciplinary collaboration, coordination and consultation, and administrative duties. The incumbent will act as a liaison between the Soldier On and the VA’s Hud-VASH team ensuring accessibility equity and identifying and addressing system challenges. The position reports to the Field Supervisor.
Qualifications:
· Relevant education and/or experience in case management, property management, real estate, or related field.
· Demonstrated ability to secure housing for barrier tenants,
· Working knowledge of HUD, VA, DCA, affordable housing, and/or landlord-tenant laws
· Valid driver’s license required.
· Ability to drive up to 6 hours per day if necessary.
· Ability to be supportive and respectful to all veterans served.
· Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally diverse families.
· Ability to be culturally sensitive and appropriate.
· Capability to work both independently and as part of team.
· Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
· Highly proficient organizational and technological skills.
Responsibilities:
· Meet with veterans in the community or at the VA to complete, applications and other forms.
· Work collaboratively with veterans and their Hud-VASH case manager to find appropriate housing
· Assist with scheduling tours of prospective housing units
· Provide transportation if necessary
· Build and maintain professional relationships with the VA, landlords, local DCA offices
· Document and maintain accurate information in client files, including progress notes on rental applications and client interactions, on a regular basis.
· Knowledge and understanding of company guidelines.
· Adhere to agency policy, procedures, and professional code of ethics.
· And other duties assigned by supervisor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 per year
