Job Summary:
Riis Settlement is seeking a dedicated, qualified candidate to serve as the Immigrant Outreach Coordinator for our Immigrant Services department. The Coordinator will lead outreach efforts to reach and engage immigrant communities in Queens for our current initiatives related to healthcare access (NYC Care) and immigrant rights (Know Your Rights workshops). The Coordinator is responsible for working with the outreach team to plan and conduct outreach activities including tabling, flyering, presentations, and other events. The coordinator must be bilingual English/Spanish to participate in outreach in Spanish-speaking communities. This is a critical role enabling Riis Settlement to provide vital information and resources to immigrant community members across Queens. This is a grant-funded position available from November 1, 2022 through October 31, 2023.

Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (Riis Settlement) is a community-based non-profit organization that offers comprehensive services to youth, adults, seniors, and immigrants in western Queens. Riis Settlement’s Immigrant Services program at was founded to meet the needs of a growing immigrant population in Queensbridge Houses and the surrounding Long Island City and Astoria communities. Through English and Citizenship preparation classes, immigration legal services, case management, and community organizing, we help immigrants to be successful in work, education, and community life.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with community partners in western Queens including schools, community organizations, elected officials, places of worship, libraries, and immigrant groups.
- Plan and conduct weekly outreach activities across Queens to promote the NYC Care program and connect individuals to screening appointments. Engage immigrant community members through a variety of outreach activities including presentations, canvassing, tabling, phone banking, town halls, and other types of community events.
- Support outreach work under additional campaigns, including helping to organize immigrant rights workshops to provide information about legal rights and resources.
- Work collaboratively with staff in the Immigrant Services department to promote our programs in the western Queens community and refer individuals to our services, including legal services, ESOL, and citizenship classes.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of resources available to immigrants in order to disseminate accurate and timely information through outreach efforts.
- Monitor the number of people reached through outreach activities to ensure that monthly targets are met.
- Track outreach activities using the required forms and databases, and submit weekly reports as required.
- Participate in relevant meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bilingual English/Spanish required (additional languages are a plus).
- Associate’s Degree
- Excellent communication skills and public speaking experience.
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and an ability to work independently and creatively.
- Knowledge of and commitment to issues of workers and immigrants’ rights.
- Overall positive demeanor and welcoming attitude with proven ability to effectively engage diverse immigrant populations and outreach in local communities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
- Must be available to periodically work evenings and weekends to participate in outreach-related events and activities
