About this Opportunity

As an Inventory Control Specialist, you'll be responsible for helping implement and maintain inventory systems, performing cycle counts and audits, identifying problems, and working with the appropriate people to permanently correct inventory issues to ensure that the correct quantity of materials is available to support our reliability goals.

  • Act as a liaison between Auditing, Planning, Production, Schedulers, Quality Control, and Engineering to analyze high potential causes of inventory inaccuracies.
  • Assist in determining appropriate inventory strategies to meet customers' expectations and minimize inventory investment.
  • Communicate inventory issues with appropriate team members, such as shortages caused by adjustments, discrepancies caused by failure to define processes, Bill of Material (BOM) issues, etc.
  • Count, research, and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
  • Identify and suggest corrective action to dispose of appropriate slow-moving or obsolete inventory to the Procurement Team.
  • Maintain and report key measures, perform cycle or sample counts as required, and process all required paperwork (deviations and material transfers) as necessary.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the systems by highlighting incorrect BOMs, validating and setting up inventory records with proper codes, and maintaining locations.
  • Offer analysis of the situation and suggest a corrective course of action using spreadsheets and queries.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects and lead initiatives as appropriate.
  • Partner with Engineering and other teams to review requests (ECOs) to change BOMs, add or delete purchased items, set up warehouses, etc.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  • Train teammates to follow correct inventory procedures and monitor processes to ensure compliance.

You might be just who we’re looking for if you have . . .

  • An Associate's degree in Business, Logistics, Inventory or Supply Management, or any related degree (preferred), OR a High School Diploma with three to five years of relevant warehouse work experience (required).
  • Familiarity with metrics, material variances, and yields (required).
  • Experience with BOM- Bill of Materials (required).
  • Previous auditor OR inventory control OR inventory management experience (preferred).
  • A good mathematical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to perform accurate, error-free work.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of material flow throughout the supply chain.
  • The ability to obtain a material handling vehicle license.
  • The ability to work with various computer programs such as Excel, Business Objects, Word, LES, and BaaN/LN.
  • The physical ability to handle all incoming materials to facilitate counts.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment.
  • A demonstrated sense of urgency and good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
