Kindergarten Readiness Specialist – Part time, afterschool

ABLE Early Childhood, an AmeriCorps program, mission is to support school readiness by increasing math comprehension in 3, 4- and 5-year-old students. The kindergarten readiness specialist will serve part time at Just for Kids - Sweet Home School District locations for up to 10 months beginning this winter. Members will implement evidence-based math games and activities. Members serve alongside lead teachers and are coached/mentored through daily hands-on service learning. ABLE Early Childhood provides the tools to help members build careers in early childhood education and more effectively prevent future academic and developmental delays for students. ABLE members must consistently provide safe conditions for the children and must always adhere to NYS OCFS or school regulations.

Member Duties:

· Assist assigned early childhood classroom teachers in child supervision and daily activities, helping ensure a positive and safe learning environment

· Attend all ABLE trainings and community service projects

· Play evidence-based math games with small groups of 4, and 5-year-olds to help increase comprehension and Kindergarten readiness

· Submit monthly reports

The following are the areas of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be qualified for the position:

· One-year experience working with children

· Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education academic background preferred

· Must have a high school diploma or equivalency

· Must be a U.S. Citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien

· Be able to provide the following documentation: birth certificate/passport, driver’s license or state photo ID, social security card, and high school diploma·

· Must undergo background check
