ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned according to qualification of staff and development of programs.

  • Supervises Kinship Care Coordinators and Kinship Care Specialists
  • Continues to build a child welfare system that is safe, secure, and stable; family centered, connected to the community; and which relies on evidence based practice necessary to support contract services.
  • Meets with KVC kinship care staff a minimum of one hour bi-weekly to provide supervision.
  • Available by pager 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to KVC kinship care staff, clients and families, as per crisis call schedule.
  • Responsible for assuring subordinates meet performance expectations including timelines, regulations and laws.
  • Supports staff to meet their needs, as evidence by supervisory evaluations completed by subordinates.
  • Assigns new referrals to KVC kinship staff, based on staff strengths and skills, within program/contract guidelines.
  • Provides direct services per program, state, and contract guidelines.
  • Ensure that services are in compliance with all regulatory standards and contract terms and conditions.
  • Completes all required paperwork and follows agency policies and procedures within timelines, to assure smooth paperwork flow.
  • Attends and participates in all scheduled meetings, consultation, and staff meetings, as required.
  • Acquires and develops resources to meet identified needs of clients and staff.
  • Provides culturally relevant and sensitive services to clients and assures that staff does the same.
  • Provides positive field instruction and supervision of Social Work interns as requested.
  • Provides back up support to contract services as requested.
  • Observes children for signs of abuse and/or neglect.
  • Participates as an organizational trainer, as assigned.
  • Understand contract requirements and work to improve contract specific outcomes.
  • Attend required trainings.
  • Provide staff training in the importance and use of kinship care and provide education to staff regarding community resources to assist and support kinship care placements.
  • Reinforce community understanding of kinship care.
  • Provide assistance on difficult cases.
  • Complete initial walkthroughs, home study assessments, background checks, and all other required paperwork necessary to facilitate a Kinship Care placement.
  • Educate kinship placements on reunification efforts and setting appropriate boundaries with the parents of the child(ren) placed in their care.
  • Complete adoption home studies as needed.
  • Develop safety plans with kinship placements as needed.
  • Prepare and conduct monthly Kinship Group as needed.
  • Participate in community and/or national kinship care groups.
  • Document all contact with clients and collaterals; complete case activity logs and all related documentation.

All KVC personnel are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of information relating to KVC client(s), client families, staff person(s), or program business. The general expectation that KVC personnel will keep information confidential does not apply when disclosure is necessary to prevent serious, foreseeable, and imminent harm to a client or other identifiable person or when laws or regulations require disclosure with a client’s consent. In all cases what is disclosed will be the least amount of confidential information necessary to achieve the desired purpose; only information that is directly relevant to the purpose for which the disclosure is made should be revealed.

Experience

Required
  • 3 year(s): Education: Bachelor’s degree, in a field that is eligible to be licensed by the BSRB, from an accredited college or university; OR Master’s degree, in a field that is eligible to be licensed by the BSRB at the masters or clinical level, from an accredited college or university. Licensure/Certification: Licensed by the Kansas BSRB
