Food Project Seeks Kitchen Manager
The Berkshire Food Project Inc., a 501c3 non-profit that has been providing meals to people in need and reducing social isolation in the Northern Berkshires for 35 years, is seeking a Kitchen Manager. This is a 30-hour-a-week position in a fast-paced but rewarding environment. The ideal candidate will be an accomplished cook with ServeSafe Manager and other professional certifications. The ability to lift 35 to 40 lbs. is required.
Must be a good communicator, a team player and able to work and interact with a wide variety of people. Flexibility will be required, as well as the ability to be calm and civil under pressure. Duties will include preparing daily meals with an emphasis on nutrition and palatability; ensuring the proper storage, rotation, and handling of all food items; utilizing and organizing donated items; supervising two kitchen assistants; showing leadership of volunteers and volunteer groups, including by modeling proper hygiene and attire, and educating them on proper kitchen etiquette and food preparation skills. A commitment to our mission and the people we serve is essential. The Kitchen Manager will need to maintain a working knowledge of community resources and referral services and use this information when diners approach with needs. The Berkshire Food Project is poised to return to in-person dining after more than two years of providing meals for take-out and through deliveries. Our new Kitchen Manager will be key in making this transition happen.
