Overview:

- Duties: Relative experience, including assisting with standard lab tests e.g., centrifuge, aliquote and distribute specimens, measure volumes), labeling and batching specimens, and providing clerical support (e.g., requisitioning); safety and infection control knowledge, computer and communication/phone skills.
- Skills: 1-year experience.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Phlebotomy course/certification or Medical Assistant course preferred.
Summary:
- Prepares solutions, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens and performs simple tests under supervision.
- Performs routine technical and clerical functions.
- May operate simple lab equipment under supervision.
- Processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens.
- Obtains blood specimens for all age groups serviced.
- Assists pathologists as needed.
- Uses, maintains and cleans laboratory equipment and uses protective equipment to protect form exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.
- Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
- Performs phlebotomist duties as assigned.
