Primary Objective:
The Laboratory Technician 1 will be responsible for ensuring that timely and quality results are produced.
Position Duties and Scope:
Ensure that all tasks are performed within both the time restraints and the relevant analysis standards.- Highlight anomalies in results and sample type and sample behavior from running basic tests.
- Perform housekeeping duties as required.
- Calibrate laboratory equipment as required.
- Perform calculations as required when conducting analytical preparations.
- Prepare and extract samples for analysis
- Control consumable stock required for the tasks performed.
- Perform basic laboratory tasks including sampling handling, glassware handling, sample testing, and housekeeping
- Create and maintain standards and reagents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Position Requirements:
High school diploma/GED is required.- Associates Degree is preferred.
- 0–3 years of laboratory experience is preferred.
Core Competencies:
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to initiate corrective action without prompting and assist co-workers whenever necessary in order to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to effectively perform duties under pressures arising from large sample volumes and short turn-around times.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use (or learn to use) Laboratory Information Management System.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Occupational Health & Safety Responsibilities:
Follow all company operating procedures, standards, policies, and training to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site.- Play an active role in the ALS safety program by correcting or reporting unsafe acts and conditions that are observed during day to day operations to create a zero-injury work environment.
- Participate in and support HSE initiatives, as required by ALS leadership.
- Understand and use HSE precautions (such as but not limited to fume hoods and PPE) while working with chemicals and samples of unknown hazard
