Job description
Assists the Supervisor of Ride Operations with scheduling and coordination of operation of Rides as needed. Position has significant emphasis on customer service and safety. Supervises applicable staff. This position is required to work weekends. Supports onsite events in the staging and monitoring of activities.
Primary Job Functions

Team Supervisor

  • Ensure there is continual radio contact maintained with staff operating rides
  • Assist with staff training on the proper methods and procedures of work for the area. This includes the daily operation of rides.
  • Fills in as boat/train driver based on scheduling needs
  • Helps to execute the plans and assignments given by the Supervisor and assists with reviewing the work of subordinates
  • Regularly updates Supervisor of Rides and Director of Facilities Operations on staff performance or scheduling concerns
  • Supervises and directs staff in correcting behavior in a courteous manner in accordance with Zoo Policies.
  • Ensures knowledge of ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Ride Operation

  • Daily performs safety inspections of rides before opening for guests
  • Report any unsafe conditions immediately
  • Communicates and performs repairs and addresses mechanical concerns
  • Coordinates with Sales and Event Teams in conducting and scheduling for daily operations and events
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the rides, transportation of passengers to various locations
  • Ensures access for guests with mobility concerns with getting on and off of rides
  • Ensures opening and closing logs are completed daily

Customer Service
  • Provides customer service to the zoo defined customers – collections, conservation, contractors, co-workers, donors, students, professional colleagues, vendors, visitors & volunteers
  • Must have positive communication skills utilizing the “GUEST” outline when providing educational activities, talking with zoo guests and answering questions
Greet – body language, tone of voice & approach
Understand – attentive & listening
Educate – answer questions
Serve – accommodating request of customers

  • Trains and assists when working with volunteers and interns; ensures public is safe while at zoo
  • Attends meetings to discuss all aspects of the zoo in order to keep customers informed properly and to resolve concerns and learn of new procedures or policies

  • Interacts regularly and provides customer service to the zoo defined customers – collections, conservation, contractors, co-workers, donors, students, professional colleagues, vendors, visitors & volunteers
  • Assists in achieving the Zoo’s Mission, Vision and defined goals
  • Uses time efficiently to complete assigned tasks. Actively seeks ways to streamline processes and stays open to new ideas and approaches
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and to improve achievement
  • Safely and efficiently uses equipment while following zoo policies and procedures
Qualifications
Willingness and ability to form and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers, and team participants. The ability to convey information through written and oral expressions, sharing information willingly, utilizing tact and diplomacy.
Reports to work at assigned time; provides adequate notice of absences and uses leave time appropriately; safely operates assigned equipment and provides for proper use and maintenance; work area is kept clean and orderly; time is efficiently used for assigned tasks.
Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor and positive attitude while working under any conditions.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • 21+ years in age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid State of Kansas Driver’s License
  • Experience providing customer service in a sales environment
  • Must be available for work weekends

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Experience with attraction ride operations
  • Experience working with boat engines
  • 2 years vehicle, motor or general maintenance experience
  • Event preparation experience
