Schwend Logistics, one of the Region’s leading dry bulk carriers is currently seeking a Logistics Coordinator for our Tampa FL terminal.

The person in this position will be working with the terminal manager and two other Logistics Coordinators to plan and run our fleet; effective team work and communication are a must!

We are looking for someone that is organized, has the ability to follow through with tasks, takes initiative, and shows attention to detail.

The person selected for this position will be working in a fast paced environment ; problem solving and tenacity are required daily. If you don’t like talking on the phone, putting together puzzles, or doing 3 things at once…. This isn’t the position for you.

Our Logistics Coordinators wear many hats; They are dispatchers, brokers, and planners.

The person in this position should expect to plan routes, negotiate freight rates, submit rate quotes, bring on new customers, assist drivers with breakdowns, enter customer orders, schedule pickup/delivery appointments in a variety of customer portals, keep customers updated on the status of pickups/deliveries, broker loads not covered by Schwend equipment, and run planned routes to ensure drivers pay checks are what they should be. The person in this position will be working heavily with drivers running the port ; so tracking driver locations and Hours of Service will be a large part of the job.

Logistics Coordinators are in the office Monday - Friday 0745-5:00 est. They are also on call in one week blocks. After hours the work lines are transferred to a work cell phone, when it is your week on call you take the cell phone home with you and drivers call in with emergencies. The person on call handles the situation / assists the driver to the best of their ability. No taking freight or brokering freight after hours.

This is a salary position.

Skills, Experience and Job Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions and manage several processes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Well organized and self-directed team player
  • Must be able to keep a cool head and foster positive driver/dispatch relations

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instruct drivers on where to pick-up and deliver loads; provide accurate and detailed information regarding directions, load information, pick-up/delivery times and other load related information.
  • Proactively communicate with dispatch team on all load and/or driver issues; includes a proactive review of pre-plans for deliveries.
  • Maintain communication with drivers and identify any existing and/or potential service failures/issues; attempt to minimize impact to the customers.
  • Accurately input load and driver related information as well as actively update drivers routes/plan for the week, and communicating with dispatch team to make sure everyone stays on the same page.
  • Coordinate company/customer needs with driver availability while ensuring drivers stay within hours of service requirements.
  • Coordinate with dispatch team, brokers, mills and customers to find loads for drivers to haul, ensuring loads stay within the legal capabilities of the equipment and maintain our company required rate per mile.
  • Prioritizes loads while ensuring customer needs are met through coordination and continuous communication with production, dispatch team and dispatch supervisor.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates Degree or Equivalent (Preferred , not required)

Experience

  • Operational/Logistics experience (not required)
  • Customer Service Management experience
