Purpose:

To ensure safe and efficient dispatch of all drivers each day while upholding company values in practice. This position is responsible for using tools and technology to ensure most efficient and timely dispatch notifications are sent to drivers and other applicable parties.

Responsibilities:

Dispatch –

· Knowledge of proper safety practices, delivery areas, steamship lines, rail yards, chassis pools, and possible charges associated with non-compliance

· Operate dispatch software and update efficiently

· Driver relations/communications for regular business and emergency assistance

· Communicate effectively with driver support to ensure efficient handling of driver needs

o Customer relations/communications when needed

o Communicate effectively with customer service to ensure customer needs are met

· Time-appointment setups and delivery notifications

· Timely paperwork for invoicing, driver settlements, and updates

o Hold drivers accountable for needed paperwork before dispatching future loads

· Work with technology to ensure effective dispatch systems

Safety –

· Monitor driver hours of service to ensure compliance and safety of drivers to be dispatched

· Serve as filter for technology to ensure compliance

· Convey instructed safety messages to drivers during daily conversation

· Document notes on safety discussions with drivers

Driver Support –

· Review each transport that will be made by drivers to maximize revenue.

· Minimize rescheduling of movements of each truck and solidify schedule.

· Minimize the rental of chassis for the use of transporting loads from one location to another for customers.

· Create proper schedules to reduce storage fees and moving containers prior to delivery to the customer.

· Maintain metrics on information as established by manager.

· Confirm truck permits are up to date with Regional Managers and assisting with ordering new permits as applicable.

· Working with customers on equipment releases for moving containers.

· Confirm that drivers have no missing paperwork for their deliveries and that their logs are complete and up to date.

· Alleviate driver issues by being point of contact for drivers and assist with solving the driver issues.

· Schedule necessary repairs for driver vehicles and communicate driver down time with Strategic Planning and Logistics Communicator.

· Work closely with drivers on their current status and inform customers and team members of driver availability.

· Constant communication with Calhoun drivers to ensure the necessary information is in place to determine return locations for both empty and loaded containers to mitigate any additional cost.

· Monitor all problems with billing to customers on jobs that have been completed.

· Confirm drivers are properly using phone and tablets when delivering loads.

· Track drivers hours of service to confirm drivers are not exceeding maximum hours of driving.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

COVID-19 considerations:
Our schedule is hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 at home. Supplies are provided for all employees to completely work from home.

Experience:

  • Dispatching: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Intermodal: 1 year (Preferred)
