Maintenance Technician I

Hourly rate: $15.00 hour

Position Description

The Maintenance Technician I assists the Director of Facilities & Maintenance and Facilities & Maintenance Manager with general cleaning repair and maintenance of The Ford House. Cleans and maintains buildings to ensure a pleasant experience for visitors and a safe, orderly environment for the collections. Setup/ tear down for events and exhibits and needed. This position will normally work 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but other hours may be required depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning tasks including vacuuming, washing windows, mopping floors, buffing and waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, emptying wastebaskets, cleaning pool and backwash filters, washing and waxing antique automobiles, etc., using proper techniques and in accordance with Ford House standards of cleanliness.
  • Operated power equipment including power washer, buffing machine, carpet cleaning machine, drills, saber saws, circular saws, generators, small sump pumps, etc. according to established procedures and in a manner that ensures the safety of persons and objects.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs on electrical and plumbing equipment, boilers, sump pumps, and other equipment as necessary to ensure proper functioning.
  • Setup tables and chairs for events and activities in a timely manner and according to instructions by supervisors and/or event planners.
  • Responds to emergency maintenances requests during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Disperses water supply.
  • Paint
  • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly conditions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of Ford House information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will not supervise staff

Qualifications/Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent required with some trade school preferred.
  • Ability to climb ladders; life and move 25-50 pounds frequently and 50- 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and use good judgement.
  • Ability to read, understand and implement instruction manuals for tools and equipment.
  • Willing to work outdoors, including in inclement weather, when necessary.
  • Occasional weekends, holiday and overtime.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other staff, visitors, and community representatives.
