SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineer supports manufacturing operations acting as a link between design engineering and the shop floor technical activities. Their scope of work includes the creation of multiple types of shop drawings, machine tool programs, increasing production efficiencies, operation time studies, and other engineering deliverables as required. This role refers more complex questions/problems to supervisor or Design Engineers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, by using knowledge of the organization’s capabilities and processes.
  • Analyzes and conducts time studies to ensure accurate part and work center routing times
  • Review parts for manufacturability (Internal capabilities vs. outsourcing)
  • Creates accurate drawings that shop floor personnel use to produce quality parts. (Drawings required include part forming, shearing, roll forming, punching, machining, assembly, and welding)
  • Provides shop floor support by answering questions and requests, etc.
  • Basic programming of manufacturing machine tools (lasers, turrets, press brakes, CNC mill, etc.)
  • Contributes to manufacturing engineering team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Works on various continuous improvement projects to improve shop floor manufacturing processes and part quality
  • Performs other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possesses a familiarity with a 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
  • Possesses familiarity in 2D DraftSight/AutoCAD
  • Possesses familiarity with time studies
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word
  • Ability to team with other Manufacturing Engineering Team members, Operations, Design Engineers, and production personnel to meet internal and external needs.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Technology or Industrial Engineering required, plus 3 to 5 years of experience in Engineering or related Engineering Technology field preferred. Understanding of engineering concepts required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Good verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and symbols.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic proficiency in algebra and geometry is required to solve related engineering problems.
REASONING ABILITY
Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also requires the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The position requires reviewing of historical data and adapting it to new situations. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks under deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Some of those functions include: siting and working at desk frequently; work at computer station; talking on phone; climbing up and down stairs; walking shop floor; standing, stooping, bending, reaching, crawling, and lifting 50 lbs. or less, seldom.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. Personal workstation may be located on the 2nd floor. The employee works in the office setting but does have the frequent interaction with the shop floor. On the shop floor, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed and air temperature fluctuates with the seasonal weather.
