Job Description
Magic Leap is seeking a Materials Scientist for the materials characterization and testing laboratory. The candidate is responsible for the daily operations of the lab, materials analysis, property generation, and root-cause analysis, submits monthly reports, and defines, organizes, and reviews documentation for lab equipment and procedures. This work is a critical part of Magic Leap production and research and development processes.
This role is based in our HW office, Plantation, Florida.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research into the structures and properties of materials, such as metals, alloys, polymers, to obtain information that could be used to develop new products or enhance existing ones.
- Prepare various materials for Optical or Electron Microscopy using common preparation techniques e.g. resin potting, polishing, sputter coating, creating cross sections
- Manage & schedule the test resources and facilities to optimize productivity and throughput by assisting in upkeep and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Person of contact for chemical safety and follow and implement OSHA regulations in the lab.
- Compile and analyze test information to determine processes or equipment operating efficiency and diagnose malfunctions.
- Prepare test protocols for use by laboratory personnel in conducting tests.
- Analyze and resolve, or assist lab personnel and customers in solving work problems.
- Maintain time and testing records.
- Assist in diagnosing issues for test instrumentation to provide accurate test data for engineers.
- Specify and submit purchase requisitions for test equipment.
- Complete tasks to meet deadlines.
- Work closely with engineers and scientists from other fields, such as mechanical, electronic, or optical engineering.
Qualifications
- Understand basic knowledge of Optical and Electron Microscope (SEM, EDS, and FIB) operation.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Capable of working on multiple tasks and projects.
- Highly detail-oriented and self-motivated.
- Applicants must have good basic laboratory skills related to consistent experiment methodology and safety.
Bachelor's degree in Material science, chemical engineering, or related field +3 years of related work experience OR Master's degree with +1 years in related work experience.
