Fulfills the mission of Norwich University as a mechanic by maintaining, repairing, and operating Norwich University cars, trucks, vans, and equipment.

Salary: $18.00/hour or more, depending on experience

Essential Functions

  • Inspects vehicles and equipment for safety hazards, repairs as necessary.
  • Completes preventive maintenance reports.
  • Operates cutting, brazing, and welding equipment.
  • Performs major equipment repair including repairs clutches, rebuilds motors, and similar jobs.
  • Cleans and washes vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains spare parts and supply inventory.
  • Performs general housekeeping in work area and on vehicles and equipment.
  • Drives vans for various events, as required.
  • Helps other facilities trades when needed.

Other Functions

  • Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
  • Achieves, maintains proficiency in and utilizes job-related equipment.
  • Speaks, reads and writes in English.
  • Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:
  • Must have successfully completed Vocational Education course in vehicle repair, including diesel engines, or similar.
  • At least 1 year of experience in vehicle maintenance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and meet University insurability requirements during period of employment.
  • Must be able to perform heavy, laborious work.
  • Sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment
  • Lift 50 pounds
  • Travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
  • Infrequent evening or weekend hours

Environmental Conditions

  • Indoor work in a garage, high level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.
