The Medical Receptionist is responsible for greeting and conducting COVID-19 symptom screening of patients, collecting any patient financial responsibility fees, posting those payments, end of day balance for financial transactions, and chart preparation for the following day. The Medical Receptionist (Check-In/Check-Out) works at the front desk.
EXPERIENCE:
- Greeting of patients prior to their appointment, excellent customer service skills, and ability to interact appropriately with our patients
- Conduct COVID-19 symptom screening according to the practice’s guidelines
- Check temperatures with thermometers and document each temperature reading on a screening patient slip
- Provide high-level patient-centered customer service
- Collection of financial responsibility from the patient while still having a positive interaction
- End-of-day balancing for your financial transactions
- Register patients, verify and update patient data
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient health information
- Compiling of charts and required paperwork for the following day
- Verification of insurance eligibility
- Schedule appointments to best meet the needs of the patient in adherence to our physicians’ schedules and availability
- Computer proficiency
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment
- Other clerical duties as assigned, including cross-training of medical receptionist positions
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced training or education in customer service desired
- 1-2 years required experience in scheduling or reception in a healthcare setting
- Experience scheduling appointments, registering patients and obtaining/verifying health insurance information
- Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients and others on the phone
- Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including multi-line telephone and computer
- Ability to function in additional clerical roles as needed
- Ability to navigate computerized scheduling system (Athena Practice)
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, and manual dexterity for extended periods of use of a computer keyboard and mouse. There are continued periods of viewing a computer monitor. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. There may be short periods of bending and squatting.
