Position OverviewThe Weston Public Schools is seeking to hire a METCO Academic Liaison to support students at Weston High School. The Liaison reports directly to the METCO Director and the High School Principal, and partners with High School and METCO staff, and families, to foster academic growth and success, effective parental engagement, intrapersonal development, and cultural proficiency. About the Weston Public SchoolsThe Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary, school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 167 students (K-12).
Key Responsibilities
- Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
- Consult with teachers and staff to assess the academic and social progress of high school METCO students and collaborate in developing interventions when needed
- Coordinate and facilitate academic and counseling support as needed in conjunction with teachers, specialists and other staff
- Greet students upon arrival and support students with the end of day transition
- Serve as an advisor to Boston resident students on academic, personal, and social matters
- Supplement the Guidance Department by conducting ongoing evaluations of students in the METCO program
- Serve as a member of all Individual Education Plan (IEP) evaluation teams for students in the METCO program, and participate in family/teacher meetings as needed
- Provide timely written reports, including student progress, and parent advocacy
- Participate in High School staff meetings, data team meetings, and instructional support team (IST) meetings
- Collaborate with other METCO Academic Liaisons and the METCO Director to share best practices
- Other duties as assigned by the High School Principal, or METCO Director
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field
- Results driven, with excellent planning and organizational skills
- Familiarity with the METCO program and a shared belief in the mission, vision, and values
- Excellent team building and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite
- Successful experience as a teacher, social worker, counselor, or related educator
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
