The Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office (NEO) is the City’s permanent mechanism for public participation in government decision-making. We create opportunities for dialogue, information sharing, partnership, and action between City government and neighborhood residents and leaders..

The City of New Orleans seeks talented & collaborative professionals to serve as Neighborhood Liaisons of the Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office. The Neighborhood Liaison serves as the Mayor’s point person to their assigned neighborhood districts to create partnerships between neighborhood/community organizations and City government.

Key Responsibilities:

The Neighborhood Liaison reports directly to the Director of the Neighborhood Engagement Office and will be a full-time position with the following duties:

  • Attend meetings (some evenings and weekends) with neighborhood leadership to plan and implement neighborhood improvement efforts.
  • Act as main contact for community members who have questions on City programs/services and as main contact between the City and the community by advising community members on City programs/policies/services.
  • Report on important issues and activities in the assigned geographic areas to City leadership.
  • Explain & facilitate City processes and help to identify City funds to support neighborhood development.
  • Assist with resolving complex neighborhood complaints in a timely fashion.
  • Partner with neighborhood leadership to improve quality of life issues for communities.
  • Provide coordination and direction to city agencies in initiating and responding to neighborhood initiatives, plans, events and requests. This includes collaboration with Community Liaison Officers, Department Directors, Council Staff, etc.
  • Assist department initiative(s)/program(s) such as digital communications, civic leadership academy, neighborhood summit, etc.
  • Help neighborhood organizations with their capacity-building needs to establish them as recognized associations via the following:Technical assistance that includes providing information on grant-making, state, federal and local resources (such as Main Street programs and Cultural Districts) that can enhance their capacity.

Attending neighborhood association/community organization/school PTA meetings and filing reports on their significant findings.
Weekly updates to the Director about emerging, ongoing and resolved issues

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 per year
