Who You'll Work With

You’ll work in our People and Organization Performance Practice North America as part of our global OrgScience and Analytics team.

As part of our global knowledge network, you’ll join more than 1,800 knowledge professionals who work alongside our consultants and clients to generate distinctive insights and proprietary knowledge. You will help develop cutting-edge assets and knowledge on organizational topics and expand existing expertise and solutions in key practice areas including organizational culture & change, talent management, diversity, equity, & inclusion, organizational design, decision making, and leadership development.

What You'll Do

As a member of our OrgScience and Analytics team, you will serve as a core member and drive organizational research at McKinsey in three ways. Knowledge development and external publishing: You will author or contribute to seminal knowledge pieces across a variety of topics and publication formats. You will work with senior leaders to test research questions and hypotheses by conducting surveys, expert interviews, and focus groups.
Asset development and innovation: You will create scalable solutions, assessments, and tools by conducting foundational research, building new models and frameworks, collecting and analyzing pilot data, and deploying with large organizations.
Client engagement and support: You will partner with senior team members to serve clients in organizational areas of expertise such as developing leadership models, revamping performance management systems and assessing employee burnout and developing change management plans to mitigate issues.
The People and Organizational Performance Practice Fellowship Program is an hourly, paid, part-time opportunity (approx. 24 hours/week*) with a flexible schedule and the ability to work remotely. The duration of the Fellowship Program is one year, and offers an excellent springboard for successful candidates to progress into full-time opportunities within the Org team or the wider firm.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an advanced degree program (PhD, DPhil) in industrial-organizational psychology, social-organizational psychology, organizational behavior management, behavioral economics, or a related field (e.g., quantitative psychology, social psychology, educational measurement) with an emphasis on academic theory, research methodology, measurement, and advanced statistics
  • Excellent research skills, including ability to complete all components of complex research projects from beginning to end (e.g., literature review and synthesis, research and measurement design, data management/cleaning, analysis, and interpretation of findings)
  • Basic understanding of HR/talent, organizational design, organizational culture and/or change management
  • Deep understanding of mechanics and theory underlying advanced analytical approaches (e.g., EFA, CFA, regression, SEM, network analysis, IRT)
  • Experience using at least one advanced statistical tool (e.g., R, Python)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with people at all levels in an organization
  • Ability to balance multiple competing and shifting priorities, stay calm under pressure and work flexibly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
