We are looking for a Peer Support Specialist to join our Integrated Health team. As a Peer Support Specialist you will serve as an advocate and role model for clients and their families to assist them in developing personal goals for recovery from mental health challenges and/or substance use/dependence. If you are looking to assist others regain their independence and support the road to recovery this could be an opportunity for you!

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Assist peers and their families in developing an individualized peer support plan using the Wellness Recovery Action Planning principal and techniques
• Assist in creating an individualized health and safety plan
• Teach and role model the value of the recovery experience
• Develop a supportive and positive relationship with the clients
• Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with individuals and groups
• Model effective coping skills and self-help strategies

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Current/past personal experience as a consumer of mental health services and be at a point in your recovery where you can share your experiences with others
• Must have a good working knowledge of mental health services, community resources and how to access these resources
• Ability to work with a diverse population as well as with and in difficult emotional situations is important
