The Plant Manager has P&L responsibility and provides leadership, line management, project management and supervision for the safe, productive operation and maintenance of a production facility.

The incumbent is accountable for providing effective leadership and management to safely meet sales and production goals, at targeted cost levels, while meeting customer expectations for quality and delivery.

A key focus is the development of strategic and/or tactical plans to assure all activities are focused on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote safe work practices and demonstrate a zero tolerance for non-compliance with safe work practices, policies and regulations
• Safely meet or exceed sales and production targets and goals
• Perform customary management and supervisory responsibilities, including goal setting, planning, direction, training and evaluation
• Support the care and maintenance of all equipment and systems in safe operating condition, and in compliance with federal and state laws
• Develop, execute and monitor operating and project plans to safely optimize profitability
• Identify opportunities for improvement
• Encourage innovation to enhance safety, efficiency and effectiveness
• Lead and support continuous improvement projects
• Build and sustain an environment of employee development, including talent pipelines and succession planning
• Evaluate and provide feedback to employees and others, recognizing good performance or taking corrective action when indicated
• Provide calming, stable leadership in the face of adverse conditions or unusual situations

Specialized Skills and Abilities

• Comprehensive knowledge of production, maintenance and logistics activities; including safety, productivity, quality, cost management, continuous improvement and leadership
• Broad working knowledge of applicable practices, procedures, policies and regulations
• Proven ability to lead a team
• Proven ability to instill accountability and manage performance based on key metrics
• Proven ability to apply knowledge and/or experience to define problems, generate alternatives and execute solutions
• Demonstrated effective communication skills
• Demonstrated effective management and supervisory skills
• Demonstrated strong customer service orientation

Education and Experience

• 4 year college degree required, engineering or technical degree preferred, MBA or related graduate degree desirable, but not required
• Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible roles in operations and/or general management
• Broad knowledge and experience of manufacturing organizations with a focus on cost reduction and the successful implementation of world-class manufacturing practices
• The position requires a solid track record in leading manufacturing operations to improve performance with emphasis on driving safety, productivity, quality, cost, continuous improvement, and leadership
