Sleep Technician
0.6 FTE, 48 Hours Per Pay Period
Primarily 6:30PM -6:30AM shifts, may vary for patient needs
Weekends as needed.

A Sleep Tech collects, analyzes and integrates patient information to identify and meet patient specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician, accepted standards of care, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive sleep diagnostic tests
  • Educates the patient on the pre-procedure, procedure, and post-procedure processes.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in
    procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of
    polysomnographic results.
  • Documents all care and testing accurately, completely and within defined timelines.
  • Calibrates testing equipment, performs appropriate physiologic calibrations, performs a
    mask fit assessment and application, and performs routine positive airway pressure mask
    desensitization prior to initiating the procedure.
  • Performs polysomnographic procedures following established standards of care,
    regulatory requirements, protocols, policies, and standard work. Assures equipment is
    safe, clean, sterilized, and tested prior to use.
  • Scores polysomnographic tests, tabulates data, and generates reports

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of AASM Manual for the Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events – Rules,
    Terminology and Technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of information technology required to support diagnostic and
    clinical documentation
  • Electronic health record experience
  • Knowledge of sleep and cardiac waveforms
  • Knowledge of general medical terminology
  • Knowledge of International 10-20 EEG Measurement System
  • Knowledge of sleep monitoring equipment and set up
  • Knowledge of CPAP/BiPAP treatment and titration
  • Knowledge of oxygen administration by protocol
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Knowledge of infection control practices
  • Knowledge of basic electrical safety practices
  • Knowledge of quality and sterilization processes and procedure.
