This position manages several projects and provides the primary administrative and personnel support to the nursing division by working in the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NC EDSS). This position will also assist in the STD clinic providing support to medical providers including chaperone, specimen transport to lab, and assisting with lab reports.

Examples of Duties

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist the programs with analytical and statistical clinical reports and maintaining records as needed.
  • Assist in the STD clinic providing support to medical providers including chaperone, specimen transport to lab, and assisting with lab reports.
  • File and maintain surveillance records from outside providers.
  • Record and distribute staff meeting minutes to appropriate staff.
  • Assists with updating policies and procedures for the Communicable Disease Branch (STI and EPI) as needed.
  • Cross-train as EPI Medical Office Assistant.
  • Completes home visits as necessary.
Employee is subject to be called upon anytime to help the agency respond to a public health emergency which may include, but is not limited to, outbreak investigations, staffing mass dispensing or immunization clinics, providing disaster relief, or other incidents (man-made or natural and intentional or non-intentional) as they arise, or any public health response requested by the Health Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Successful completion of a Keyboarding on-line assessment will be required. Candidates selected as qualified will be contacted via email by Human Resources for testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of clerical work in a medical office and must be familiar with general office procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, work with a team and be multi-tasked.
  • Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in the use of general office machines and equipment.
  • Employee must follow HIPAA guidelines and maintain confidentially.

Must have or obtain and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Background check and negative drug test are required.
