We are a lumber and building material supply store, seeking an energetic purchasing assistant to join our team. Previous sales experience and knowledge of building materials and methods is helpful but we are willing to train the right individual.

Job Description

The team member is responsible for supporting the purchasers with inventory and supplies for their assigned categories. They are responsible for assisting with acknowledgement accuracy, tracking and overall maintenance for product lines, vendors and pricing.

Job Responsibilities:

• Verify acknowledgements and purchase orders.
• Update product pricing, vendor information and item details in the POS system as needed.
• Track open inventory shipments as requested.
• Conduct accurate and timely processing of all documents related to the procurement of goods and services, such as setting up vendors and issuing purchase orders.
• Assist purchasers with acknowledgements, tracking and maintenance for designated product lines.
• Conduct secondary vendor product searches as requested.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively across different organizational levels, functions, businesses and geographic regions.
• Additional support activities as they transpire.

Education & Skills

• Previous retail experience recommended
• Proficient with Excel and familiarity with Access is a plus
• Have attention to detail with a positive attitude
• Have energy, enthusiasm and willingness to work as a Team
• Lead by example to deliver results
• Be able to communicate well with others. Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Professional appearance and personality
• Be able to organize and establish priorities in a dynamic environment
• Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or the following work-related experiences:

• 2 years of experience in construction or related field
• Experience working as a purchasing assistant in the industry is preferred
• Strong knowledge of industry market trends and conditions
• Comprehensive knowledge of popular products in the industry
• Flexible to travel to meet with suppliers, distributors and manufacturers as required
