POSITION: FULL TIME
SALARY: MID $60,000 DOE

The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation’s (SoBro) mission is to enhance the quality of life in the South Bronx by strengthening businesses and creating innovative economic, housing, educational and career development programs for youth and adults.
SoBRO’s programs include spurring economic development, building affordable housing, adult education, workforce development, helping at-risk youth to succeed, and producing other positive outcomes for South Bronx residents and employers.
As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2022, SoBRO intends to become a 21st community and economic development organization doing vital work in the communities we serve, incorporating the values of equity, sustainability, strong business practices and advocacy into the foundation of this anchor institution.
SoBro has developed over 1,500 units of affordable and supportive housing, and currently owns and/or manages over 450 units in the Bronx and East and Central Harlem.
Overview of the Position
The Real Estate Project Manager (REPM) has overall responsibility for the operation and success of various real estate development initiatives.
SoBro seeks a candidate to work in conjunction with the President/CEO, Property Management team and outside
Financial Consultant to manage SoBro’s development pipeline. SoBro is currently in predevelopment on several affordable housing and mixed-use development projects as it seeks to expand its development portfolio. The
REPM will be supporting those partnership developments and leading the progress of those initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The position and duties offers the candidate an opportunity to have first-hand experience in facilitating redevelopment projects in various NYC neighborhoods. The REPM would be responsible for a variety of project management duties including, but not limited to the following:
- Interface with City agencies such as NYC Department of City Planning, NYC Department of Transportation,
NYC Economic Development Corporation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC
Department of Housing Preservation and Development, etc.
- Coordinate with development team consultants and professionals, including Legal, Land Use and Zoning counsel, Architects and Engineers, Geotechnical specialists, Environmental Specialists, and Governmental
Liaisons.
- Meet with local Community Board, community-based organizations, local elected officials and other community stakeholders.
- Field work includes site visits to become intimately familiar with project site as well as surrounding neighborhood and relationship of site to area. May involve coordinating site visits with construction and/or design professionals.
- Write up project descriptions, develop presentation materials (in conjunction at times with architect) and detailed photos of the site and surrounding areas.
- Keep track of due diligence consulting agreements and monitor progress and payments.
- Support Property Management team in identifying public funding opportunities for redevelopment of existing portfolio, submit and manage financing applications, coordinate in scope development and manage process.
- Develop budgets including sources and uses of public subsidy supports.
Skills with Microsoft Window packages as well as multi-media is important. Bi-lingual a plus. Ability to write well is as important as is the ability to interact with public. Basic knowledge of Excel spreadsheets needed. In-depth understanding of development proformas and an understanding of affordable and supportive housing funding programs and finance a strong plus.
The ideal candidate should have experience managing construction projects, demonstrate leadership and be able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Candidates should have strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Education or experience in the disciplines of construction management and design and/or engineering, architecture and construction is ideal.
