Job description
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Point Foundation (Point) empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society. Point is the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit.
Point seeks to build community and springboard a new generation of LGBTQ leaders toward success by providing scholarship funding, mentorship, leadership development, and an affirming community of LGBTQ scholars and alumni. Point’s work is vital because nearly one-third of LGBTQ students drop out of high school to escape the violence, harassment, and isolation they face there. As a result, many LGBTQ students say they are not planning to pursue opportunities for higher education.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Point Foundation is hiring Independent Contractor Application Readers to read and evaluate Flagship Scholarship applications submitted for the upcoming Point Scholarship selection cycle, running from November 2022 through February 2023 (with the possibility of extending through March 2023 for those interested). Readers should have a working knowledge of the LGBTQ community, challenges faced by LGBTQ people, and common terminology. We prefer candidates with prior experience in college admissions or merit scholarship award processes.
This is a fully remote contract position with an expectation of 20-25 hours per week of application review. Each reader will be assigned a batch of 100-130 applications to read and evaluate each week.
Before reviewing applications, readers will participate in training with Point staff and other seasonal readers. Readers will have regular check-ins with the Associate Manager, Recruitment and Selections through the selection cycle.
