SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST FLSA Status: Exempt

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: Performs responsible professional assessments. Screens, evaluates, identifies, and provides therapy for students diagnosed with speech language impairment which impacts their educational progress and/or functional performance. Assist teachers, administrators, and other staff members in understanding assessments and addressing students’ needs. Work is performed under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)  Evaluate and diagnose students suspected of having speech language disorders;  Write comprehensive reports to be presented at IEP meetings;  Interpret and communicate evaluation summaries in written and verbal form;  Serve as a collaborative member of the IEP team;  Provide for individual needs and interests of students with the aid of appropriate and effective daily lesson planning;  Demonstrate effective communication skills and positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff, and community;  Deliver therapy using a variety of teaching techniques and the use of a variety of instructional resources and materials to meet the students’ needs;  Maintain appropriate records and monitor compliance with state and local requirements;  Maintains and upholds School policies and procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have strong competency in administering and interpreting tests and communication samples for speech/language disorders. Must have the ability to cooperatively plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive education programs for students whose needs include communication remediation. EDUCATION AND

EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in Speech/Language Pathology; Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC_SLP) preferred. Must hold a valid school speech-language pathologist license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight, 5-10 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $47,775.00 - $76,498.80 per year
