SUMMARY:

The primary duties performed by the Staff Accountant include, but are not limited to, the accurate computation, classification, recording and verifying of various financial transactions; ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger and other accounting records; maintaining grant files; and providing reporting and financial analysis. Know, support and sustain FRA values, programs and objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

For assigned FRA entities:

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable and maintain the associated files.
  • Maintain purchase order requisitions.
  • Prepare cash receipts
  • Compile and post monthly recurring entries.
  • Assure accurate and timely reconciliation of bank statements.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset and prepaid schedules.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis; post any necessary adjusting journal entries.
  • Produce monthly financial statements as assigned.
  • Review accounting staff data entry for accuracy.
  • Serve as back up for accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Assist in the preparation, analysis and review of revenue and expense estimates and projections, and budget to actual results.
  • Maintain comprehensive grant files.
  • Perform quarterly grant reporting to the State.
  • Reconcile quarterly payroll reporting.
  • Bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Preparation of FRF financial statements
  • Maintain and compiles audit schedules for assigned accounts.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, customers, and FRA staff.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends seminars, in-service sessions, and workshops and staff meetings.
  • Responsible for maintaining training compliance in accordance with FRA policies and procedures, state and federal regulations.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred, may substitute experience for degree.
  • Three years’ experience in accounting field. A successful candidate will have data entry and general ledger reconciliation experience. Experience with non-profit structures and requirements preferred.
  • Must meet agency insurance criteria for operating agency and personal vehicles on agency business (21 y/o and licensed 3 years).

Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including internal controls. Attention to detail, thoroughness and accuracy are essential traits for this position. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively before various audiences. Demonstrated ability to follow instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and interpret general and accounting periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government standards, policies and regulations. Demonstrated ability to perform 10 key by touch. Ability to work independently, exercise judgment and make quality decisions consistent with the level of the position. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Ability to complete tasks and projects as assigned in a competent manner and on-time. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Ability to treat other respectfully and with consideration regardless of status or position. Ability and desire to be an effective team member. Must possess the knowledge and ability to utilize a computer. Ability to learn new software and hardware applications. Must have reliable transportation and maintain a good driving record.
