Job description
A pool technician works under general supervision of the Aquatic Professional Staff to perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and routine work at the pools This may include pool maintenance, cleaning and service to internal and possibly external customers. This may require specialized knowledge of and skills that can be known coming in or taught including: pool chemicals, cleaning equipment, installation, maintenance, modification and repair work in assigned area of pool equipment, building repair, minor plumbing and electrical repair. In addition to job specific skills, pool technicians will gain valuable life and professional skills such as time management, problem solving, adaptability and attention to detail. Previous experience is not required, but it is helpful to have a strong work ethic, be generally handy and have a general eagerness to learn and be helpful.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and supervise aspects of the aquatics facility operation, including developing and executing programs of water-related activities, monitoring and regulating pool chemistry, performing routine maintenance
- Conduct daily maintenance inspections of facility
- Ensure facility cleanness and security
- Support in opening and closing of the facility
- Consistently promote a positive, professional image at all times and provide consistent high quality customer service
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance, including but not limited to, governmental and public relations; legal and regulatory compliance; and supervising the aquatics facility
- Consistently demonstrate positive, effective communication skills
- Work, and direct others to work, in a safe manner
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of, and comply with, the facility rules, policies and procedures, and consistently and appropriately enforce them
- Represent the department, the university and ourselves with the highest degree of integrity at all times
Qualifications:
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
- Ability to swim 100 yards in deep water without touching lane line or wall, face in water preferred
- Perform basic mathematical computations
- American Red Cross CPR & FA certification is required within one month of hire and is provided free of charge to staff members
Availability Requirements:
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, special events, hard to fill times and holidays - we will work around university class schedules
- Must attend monthly in-service trainings, fitness swims and bi-weekly skill checks
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per week including mornings, nights, holidays and weekends
