STUDENT SERVICES MENTOR
POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Services Mentor position will work directly with students as needed from enrollment to employment, tracking student surveys, wrap-around service needs and any other direct service needs of students and working to place students in available jobs. Responsible for providing support to students and develop individual educational plans and progress evaluations to ensure student retention and success in the program. Develops relationships with area employers to match students to available jobs in the area.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: The Student Services Mentor will be responsible for communication and record keeping with every student within SWTC programs. This includes, but not limited to:
- Work closely with SWTC to recruit students through job fairs, career events, community engagement and appearances, school district recruitment and outreach, online recruitment tools, etc.
- Assist students when registering to choose the career path best suited for their wants and needs.
- Assist students with educational barriers as needed (ex. Childcare vouchers, transportation).
- Assist students with classroom needs including materials, supplies, testing assistance, etc.
- Work with SWTC staff to identify employers in the region hiring in the identified pathways and for the classes offered at SWTC.
- Work to place students with area employers.
- Regularly track employer demand and reach out to employers to keep available jobs updated in SWTC system to better match students with available positions.
- Work closely with area employers to place students directly with employers either through clinicals, apprenticeships or skilled trades pathways.
- Track all student surveys and enter into database.
- Follow up with students after they are placed and track their progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: TheStudent Services Mentor must be proficient in communication skills with people of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and gender identities, and educational abilities. Additionally, the Student Services Mentor position will include the following required or preferred qualifications:
- Spanish language fluency strongly preferred.
- Minimum of an Associates’ degree from an accredited school is preferred. Though five years of relevant experience can be substituted for educational requirement.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License & pass background check.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) & Google platforms
- Highly organized multitasker who works well in a fast-paced environment
- Strong and demonstrated effective verbal, written, and listening skills and professional telephone skills and manners. Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Experience working with young adults, job placement, or mentor experience preferred.
Salary & Benefits: Full-time salary commensurate with experience. Benefits available including health insurance, IRA match, paid time off, professional development training.
