Supervisor Landscape - County of Bergen

Department of Parks & Recreation – Division of Park Operations

Under the direction of the Manager of the Mobile Landscaping Crew, this individual will supervise and work with employees engaged in landscaping and will do other related duties as required.

Job Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

• Supervises work of a group pf employees engaged in maintenance of grounds involving fertilizing, liming, and seeding of established and new lawn areas, mowing and aerating practices, use of materials for control of weeds, mulching and removal of leaves, and general maintenance practices.
• Transplants, prunes, feeds and sprays flowers, evergreens and deciduous trees and shrubs
• May take responsibility for operation and management of a nursey.
• Supervises the maintenance of equipment.
• May prepare specifications for purchase of turf supplies, plant materials and equipment.
• Prepares vehicles with needed tools and equipment for the respective day’s jobs.
• Gives assignments and instructions to employees.
• Checks on jobs, takes notes, and instructs the crew accordingly if any issues arise.
• Prepares and maintains records of personnel and work accomplished.
• Knowledge of problems and methods involved in landscaping and maintenance of grounds including planting of flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Knowledge of problems and methods involved in caring for equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Ability to direct subordinates in procedures of maintaining care of grounds.
• Ability to obtain, store, safeguard and use equipment, material, and supplies.
• Ability to provide employees with needed advice and assistance when difficult and unusual problems arise, and to check their work to see that proper procedures are followed as well as reasonable standards of workmanship and output are maintained and that desired objectives are achieved.
• Reports all findings to the manager.

Education Requirements:

· High School Diploma.

Schedule:

· Full Time – OT as needed.

Other:

· Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the planting, care, and maintenance of trees, shrubbery, plants, flowers, and grounds.

· NJ Driver’s License

· Must obtain a CDL license within the first year of employment.

· Appointees may be required to obtain a pesticide applicator certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

· Skilled in various trade laborer such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing. Mechanics and electrics.
