Sustainability Lead
Description:
The IAS Sustainability Lead will be part of the team that supports business growth, and strategy with its internal and external stakeholders, and serves as the expert on regenerative ag practices that benefit both the company and the grower member.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Industry liaison: maintaining active involvement with conservation organizations and associations (NRCS, NACD/SWCD, Soil Health Institute, Pheasants Forever, etc.) to identify growth opportunities for IAS and its network and develop projects and programs that advance stewardship on croplands.
  • Industry liaison: scope out and find new projects and opportunities that our organization can participate in and or apply for.
  • Provide leadership to the Conservation Agronomists and agronomy team, provide education on conservation practice benefits and implementation, and review the Truterra Sustainability Tool data to develop insights on meaningful opportunities to improve conservation adoption. Serve as a resident expert on cover crops and soil health practices and how those can be implemented on farms with success.
  • Develop a training strategy around both soil health and cover crops that can be provided to both IAS Agronomy Sales Advisors and farmers.
  • Grower innovation trials: in conjunction with the field team, you will be designing trials to meet the project objectives, advise IAS and growers on trial protocols, serve as a central point of contact during the implementation phase, review the resulting data to develop stewardship insights and incorporate them into case studies
  • Business development: supporting the IAS growth strategy and developing project proposals to access public-private funding for the implementation of conservation practices (e.g. Regional Conservation Partnership Programs, etc.)
  • Project manage already developed opportunities that include things like RCPP, CIG, and manage those in Conservation Agronomist roles, and their respective organizations and outreach.

Required Experience & Education:

  • B.S. in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Agronomy, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture business or related discipline
  • 5 or more years of experience in conservation and natural resource management
  • 5 or more years of experience in project development and management
  • Previous consulting/business advisor experience preferred
  • Deep understanding of agronomic and environmental models
  • First-hand knowledge of NRCS and SWCD conservation funding programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, SoilMAP, and Truterra Insights Engine
  • Solid network of conservation contacts that will allow for more expansion of projects

Physical Requirements/Environmental Adaptability:

  • Requires static strength to lift, push, pull, or carry objects with a minimum weight of 50 pounds. Also, flexibility to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. Also, trunk strength and the ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time. Some tasks involve repetitive motion.
  • Agricultural Environment – Possible exposure to seasonal weather, outdoor conditions, and agriculture products.
  • Personal Protective Equipment may be required for some tasks.
