TITLE EXAMINER

SoDak Title is currently hiring for the Title Examiner position. The right candidate will be responsible for providing accurate and professional title commitments, maintaining a high level of productivity and products, assessing risk and liabilities in accordance with policy provisions, and providing title opinions based on the facts and documentation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Examine title orders, within company guidelines, to determine the conditions of the title and insurability by considering the effect of documents such as deeds, mortgages, mechanics liens, tax liens, judgments, assessments, probates, and other matters of record.
• Research utilizing title plant software, analyze and evaluate pertinent record documents for determination of ownership, legal descriptions, and any conjunction to title.
• Explain chain of title, exceptions, and requirements to customers and managers.
• Recognize title defects and formulate curative measures.
• Assess risks and liabilities that may jeopardize the company, and bring these matters to the attention of management, as appropriate.
• Maintain proper production levels and delivery standards.
• Review surveys prepared on properties, if applicable.
• Prepare an accurate and comprehensive title commitment in accordance with company examining and policy procedures.
• Perform other duties assigned by manager, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate/GED
• South Dakota Abstracters Certificate (preferred, not required)
• Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the title industry, or other applicable experience, preferably experience in understanding title orders.
• Computer competency (Microsoft Office), keyboarding/data entry skills, spelling, and proofreading.
• Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
