Job Overview:

University of Texas Health San Antonio in conjunction with the Texas Liver Institute is seeking a full-time nurse coordinator to work Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm in their Liver Transplant Program Austin clinic location. This position coordinates all activities to provide care and services to patients with liver disease. Duties include assessing referrals, patient interviews, clinic visits, processing orders, attaining results, preparing patients for listing on the organ transplant list, and scheduling maintenance visits while patients are listed. The position requires the nurse to have a combination of office and clinic hours. There are no weekends and no on call requirements for this position.

Job Duties:

  • Conducts initial pre-evaluation interview of patient, leads transplant evaluation committee meetings and assists in the development and implementation of quality assurance.
  • Assess appropriateness of referrals, coordinates visits and assists attending physician.
  • Documents results of consultation in patient records and computer database.
  • Coordinates services with organ procurement organization and provides education to internal and external professionals.
  • Maintains and updates all patient records for transplant evaluation.
  • Contacts patients to provide information and conduct medical status assessment to determine appropriateness of surgery and advises on pre-surgical recommendations.
  • Provides information to insurance company/payer requests regarding status of patient.
  • Conducts educational seminars for referring physician offices, dialysis units (where appropriate), other health care professionals and the public.
  • May provide work coordination and leadership to other coordinators and support staff.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

Associate's degree in Nursing, Biology, Medical Technology or other health related field is required.

Experience:

Four (4) years of medical experience in operating room or critical care department with experience and understanding of organ and tissue donations is required.
