Overview
The Public Works Water Division is looking for a dedicated individual that has a good work ethic and can work with a team and on occasion work alone. Our team works in all weather conditions, responds to afterhours emergency repairs (as, needed), observing safe work practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment.
The water division installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution infrastructure including service lines, hydrants, pumps, and storage facilities. We also inspect water service for code compliance. This is a water distribution position - the City of Tigard does not operate a water treatment plant.

Examples of Duties
Installation, repair and replace:
- Water distribution main lines
- Fire hydrants
- Water meters
- Water service lines
Performs maintenance that includes:
- Water main flushing
- Water valve exercising
- Fire Hydrant maintenance
- Maintenance around water meters
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND
- Two (2) years of related experience, such as construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, or parks and landscape.
- Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver's license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving record within 6 months of hire failure to do so may result in termination.
Utility Worker I
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND
- One (1) year of experience in construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of streets, underground utilities, routine service of light and heavy vehicles and other power driven equipment, or parks and landscape.
- Pay range: $20.30-$27.21 per hour
If assigned to water distribution systems maintenance:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certification from the State of Oregon.
- Confined Space Entry Certification.
- Competent Person Certification.

- Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross.
- CPR Certification.
Supplemental Information
Union Representation: SEIU
Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday through Thursday one week (9-hour days) and Monday through Friday (9-hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8-hour day on Friday) the next week. This schedule provides 3-day weekends every other weekend.

Compensation: *
The hourly range for this overtime eligible position is $23.54-$31.55 per hour. The starting pay assignment, based on an analysis of the successful candidate’s related experience and education in accordance with the City’s pay equity policy and the Oregon Equal Pay Act, would be no higher than $28.61 per hour.

The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job.

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirement: The City of Tigard has a COVID-19 vaccination mandate that has been suspended. The suspension will be reviewed quarterly beginning December 31, 2022, or as conditions warrant.
