The Sr. Director or Vice President of Policy and Advocacy will be responsible for driving the policy and advocacy programming of the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. The ideal candidate will be an experienced economic policy advocate with deep government experience, a strong strategic sense, good networks, and a deep appreciation for academia and the use of evidence and nuance in policymaking.

Equitable Growth is a nonprofit research and grant-making organization dedicated to advancing evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. We seek to determine the channels through which rising economic inequality affects economic growth and stability in the United States. Equitable Growth builds a bridge between the academic and policy communities to research and analyze the effects of inequality, mobility, racial and gender inequities, and persistent institutional racism on U.S. economic growth and presents those findings to policymakers so they can create a more inclusive economy through evidence-based policy.

Position offer and salary for the Director or VP commensurate with applicable skills, experience, and education. The salary for the Senior Director position begins at $160,000; the salary for the VP position begins at $180,000 with the exact salary to be determined based on total relevant experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive an agenda for Equitable Growth's policy and advocacy programming, including policy materials, reports, and events.
  • Represent Equitable Growth with government officials and at external events.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to policy staff.
  • Manage the policy team to align the team's work with the broader organizational aims.
  • Ensure work is on track to meet stated organizational and program objectives, key results, and funding deliverables.
  • Liaise between policy team and other teams, and partner with the communications and marketing team on materials that elevate Equitable Growth's policy work in the media.
  • Support fundraising strategies for policy development and dissemination.
  • Serve on the senior leadership team of the organization.
  • Other duties to be determined in partnership with the president/CEO.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of fifteen years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience doing policy work at senior levels of government is highly preferred.
  • Strong strategic skills and experience setting organizational or team agendas.
  • Deep knowledge of federal economic policymaking institutions (including Congress, executive branch agencies, the White House, and the Federal Reserve) required, familiarity with state-level policymaking preferred.
  • Knowledge of major domestic economic policy issues.
  • Proven ability to apply academic economics research to policy problems.
  • Proven ability to communicate evidence-based policy guidance to key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocates, and the media.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, and experience managing teams with varying experience and skill levels; experience at the senior level of a non-profit preferred.
