General Description:

NA – CPA I: Provides nutrition services to low-risk child applicants and participants.

NA – CPA II: Provides nutrition services to low-risk applicants and participants in all categories of eligibility (infants, children, prenatal, breastfeeding and postpartum women).

Reports to: Senior Nutritionist/ WIC Program Director

Supervises: N/A

Salary/Status: Non-Exempt

Minimum Requirements:

1. One year's experience in a health care field as a counselor, educator, clinical assistant, outreach worker, or home health aide.

2. High school diploma or G.E.D.

3. Interest in nutrition or health care.

4. Good communications skills, in both oral and written English.

5. Good interpersonal skills.

6. Sensitivity to the needs of the WIC population.

7. Availability

Principle Responsibilities and Duties: (NA-CPA I)

  • Completes and receives acceptable status on all components, activities and posttests of the CPA I Training Program to obtain CPA I status.

AFTER OBTAINING CPA I STATUS:

2. Provides nutrition care for low-risk children at certification and follow-up, including all aspects of:

  • Anthropometric and hematological data collection.
  • Dietary and nutritional risk assessment.
  • Food package assignment.
  • Counseling and education.
  • Documentation and nutrition data entry.
  • Health and social service referrals.
  • Follow-up nutrition education.

3. Performs other duties as needing including participating in quality assurance activities.

Responsibilities include:

1. Completion and receipt of acceptable status on all components, activities and posttests of the CPA II Training Program to obtain CPA II status.

AFTER OBTAINING NA - CPA II STATUS:

2. Provides nutrition care for low-risk women, infants and children at certification and follow-up (as defined in the risk criteria), including all aspects of:

  • Anthropometric and hematological data collection.
  • Dietary and nutritional risk assessment.
  • Food prescription assignment.
  • Nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education.
  • Documentation and nutrition data entry.
  • Health and social service referrals.
  • Follow-up nutrition education.

3. Assists in the planning and development of education materials and group nutrition education activities.

4. Performs other duties as needed, including participating in quality assurance activities.

This position also requires the ability to use a computer, work at a computer workstation, viewing a CRT and have some knowledge of a keyboard.

From time to time, this position requires the ability to work long and arduous hours.
