BASIC FUNTION:

The Salve Regina University Writing Center is situated in the Academic Center for Excellence. The Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director of Student Academic Success Services to support and promote writing campus-wide through Writing Center services and programs. This position closely collaborates with other student-oriented offices across campus: Subject Tutoring, Academic Progress Support, Academic Advising, McKillop Library, Student Employment, Student Affairs, among others. The Writing Center Coordinator's primary responsibility is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center. This position will also support the first-year writing program with a 1/1 instructional load.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities of the Writing Center Coordinator include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of a vibrant writing center (~1000 student interactions per semester).
  • Recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating general and embedded peer writing tutors to ensure quality support.
  • Maintaining TutorTrac for the Writing Center to ensure accurate collection of data and consultation notes.
  • Assessing Writing Center programs and services.
  • Designing and team-teaching tutor training workshops with the Subject Tutoring Coordinator.
  • Developing relationships with faculty, departments, and staff across campus in order to design and deliver resources, materials, workshops, and programming that meet the university's needs.
  • Coordinating embedded-tutoring partnerships for the first year writing program and other courses by request; managing communication between faculty and embedded tutors to ensure the writing process is intentionally integrated into courses and assignments; providing additional training and support to faculty and embedded tutors as necessary.
  • Teach one course a semester for the first-year writing program (UNV 101/UNV 102)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with TutorTrac tutor management system
  • Experience coordinating programs, including developing, implementing, and assessing programs for college students.
  • Experience using academic technology and learning management systems (e.g. Canvas) effectively in teaching and learning, and to work collaboratively with other members of the department

Required:

  • Masters degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Communications, English, or a related field is required.
  • Experience working in a university writing center or other learning services office as either a writing tutor, general tutor, or as a professional staff member.
  • Experience teaching composition at the college level
